K Update

We have more exciting things coming up for our classroom! Next week we will be spending time celebrating Dr. Seuss's Birthday. We have lots of fun things planned for the kindergarten and first grade students. I am looking forward to all the fun things we can do all while learning about his books.

Next week is also "Read Across America Day"

About NEA's Read Across America

The National Education Association is building a nation of readers through its signature program, NEA's Read Across America. Now in its thirteenth year, this year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources.

NEA's Read Across America Day, NEA's national reading celebration takes place each year on or near March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books, and you can too!

This special day goes along with all the literacy activities that we will be doing throughout the week. As a special part of this celebration, I would like to invite any of you to come in and read to our class. You can bring in your favorite story and we will listen to you read aloud to us! Please email me if you are interested in arranging a time. Any day Tuesday - Friday will be open for reading visits.  

The most recent SJCA newsletter mentioned that our school will be participating in IOWA testing over the next two weeks. While kindergartners do not take the IOWA test, we will be doing a series of assessments on our students. We are also going to practice some tests that are similar to the IOWA so that the students have a chance to practice their test taking skills. This will be happening over the next two weeks.

Today the students brought home some leveled readers in their folders. They can read them at home as practice and then they can be returned in the school folder (I will try to re-use them and conserve resources). Once or twice a week I will replace the readers with a new one. They all did a wonderful job reading with me today. I am so proud of them. I hope that you enjoy listening to them read as much as I do!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Mr. Santori is looking for 1-3 parents who would be willing to help in the computer lab during our class time. We have class Wednesday from 11:05-11:35. If you are interested please email me. Help is needed for the remainder of the school year. 


IXL - Students can still finish up practicing their money skills. If this is complete they can begin to practice time telling skills. 


As of today...the kids have practiced 11,801 math problems so far this year! WOW! We've practiced 55 hours and 14 minutes! WOW! That's a lot of math!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
