I can't beleive we are already 1/2 way through February! Time continues to move quickly :) Today it was FINALLY warm enough for us to go outside for recess and kids were able to enjoy some much needed fresh air!
Monday we are looking forward to celebrating Valentine's Day in the classroom. Please help your child make at least enough cards for the kids in our class (homemade cards are fine). We will be passing out cards and doing some other fun activities on Monday afternoon. Today the kids each painted their own "mailboxes" so they have a special place for all their goodies. (Thank you Mrs. Drinka for coming to help us paint! ). Kids can wear RED shirts with their uniform bottoms.
I recently tested all the kids so I have a current reading level for each child. Over the next few weeks, we'll be diving into books that are a good fit. The kids will be spending more time in literacy centers and guided reading groups. We have also stared using our AR (Accelerated Reader) program in the classroomom. All children have attempted to take the first level of the test....and some of the kids were able to start taking quizzes on books they are reading or listening too in the classroom. This is a great tool that is going to help us build reading and comprehension skills.
In math we started to work with money this week. We'll be spending some time on money over the next week or two. Learning all the different values and adding up coins. IXL has practice in coins that the kids can work on both at home and school.
The kindergartners are also looking forward to some additional hand writing practice over the next few weeks. We are focusing on the correct formation of our letters and using finger spacing.
Our next Social Studies lessons will focus on President's Day and we will look at a few of our most famous presidents.
In Science we had a great time looking at 6 different mixtures this week. It was fun to rotate through and see all the similarities and differences. We are going to continue a series of experiments. Next up - the importance of hand washing and we'll be growing some of the germs on our unwashed hands!
In Religion we are going to start to focus on Lent and making little sacrifices for Lent. There are going to be some special goals that we are going to set for the Lenten season.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mrs. Kenesie :)
