Monday Update #1

We did it! We all survived our first full day at SJCA. The kids did a fantastic job today. We had the normal first day jitters and a few tears but overall the day went really well.
Here's what we did....
  • First "all school" Monday assembly
  • Calendar, weather, 100 Day Chart
  • First Art class
  • Snack
  • school tour
  • Story #1
  • Lunch and Recess
  • Started to launch school rules....The 3 Bee's
  • Story #2 (The Kissing Hand)
  • Made our own "Kissing Hands" to help us when we miss mom and dad
  • Met our 5th grade buddies
  • Church practice with our buddies
  • Play Time!
What a busy day....I'm sure all the kids are exhausted!

This week we'll be spending the majority of our time learning routines. Its a lot of work to learn all the important stuff we do at school. It also takes a lot of time to practice all these things.

New @ SJCA this year is our PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention System) more info can also be found here

Our 3 B's are -
  • Be Safe
  • Be Respectful
  • Be Ready to learn
I'll be talking with the students a lot this week about our 3 B's and how they will function in our room and around the school as a whole. The way the 3 B's will function are each child will basically get 3 verbal warnings when they not following the 3 B's. I have a special chart so they can track their warnings. On the 4th warning there will be a consequence for the student. Examples of the consequences include a short time out, going to another teacher's room to re-focus, or a visit to Mrs. Santarelli (reserved for severe behaviors). If a child receives a 4th verbal warning and a consequence I will also contact you at home to update you on your child's behavior. If the undesired behavior continues we might want/need to set up a time to meet and discuss some behavioral strategies. While these are the consequences for undesired behaviors we are really striving to promote the positive behaviors at school!!!!!!!!!!
