It is Catholic Schools Week and we have a lot of fun extra activities happening this week!
Today we enjoyed mass with all the children who attend Catholic School in Kenosha. Mass was celebrated by the Archbishop.
Tuesday - 70's dress day. Staff vs 5th grade in a volleyball game.
Wednesday - Orange spirit wear tops & comfy bottoms. Jump America field trip!
Thursday - Pace activities in the morning. 1st grade spelling bee in the afternoon.
Friday - 100th day of school. Buddy project with Mrs. Garcia's class. 100 day snack mix and math with both the 1st grade classes. Ice cream social in the evening.
We are still in need of donations for our Pace day activities. We would greatly appreciate a few more bags of Hershey kisses and some boxes of Teddy grahams.
- Reading - Mini unit with Tacky the Penguin books. We'll focus on predictions, story summarization, & character traits. I will be assessing the students using a running record to update their reading levels and to develop more reading goals.
- Math- Chapter 5 unknown partners with teen totals.
- Language Arts - 6 Trait lessons on word choice.
- Social Studies - character education on kindness
- Religion - finishing up discussing followers of Jesus
- Technology - researching animals for science, practice creating word clouds in wordle
- Homework - math packet, high frequency word list, January reading log. No spelling homework this week! I also included a list of helpful reading strategies in the folder that can be used with the students at home while they read.
3 Bee update...the students have been hard at work filling up their 3 bee punch cards. For everyday that they follow the 3 bees they get a hole punched on their punch card. After the card is filled (16 punches) they can pick a coupon out of the binder as a reward. So far the kids have been choosing sitting at my desk, lunch in the classroom with me and a friend, bring in a pillow or stuffed animal, extra recess and more! I hope that they will stay motivated and keep up the hard work! I am also stressing the importance of becoming good leaders and being an example for others with good behavior. We are also struggling with some students not being as kind or supportive as we could be. So our biggest goal is to demonstrate kindness to all children in our classroom. To get this back on track we are doing some new morning meeting activities to great one another in the morning. We are also sharing positive notes with each other about what we like about each other.
Tomorrow we say goodbye to one of our friends. Ilijan will be having his last day at SJCA on Tuesday. His family is moving to Michigan where his dad has taken a new job. Best wishes to the Jarnjak family! Ilijan you will be missed by all of your friends back here in Wisconsin!
