weekly update

Here's what's happening in our class this week!

Tuesday - we'll be taking a walk with our 5th grade buddies to collect leaves. We are going to use the leaves for several different projects this week.

Friday - field trip to Swan's Pumpkin Farm. Please remember to pack a cold lunch packed in a disposable bag that is labeled with your child's name. Children can were jeans with SJCA spirit wear or uniform tops. Remember we'll be outside the whole time! Please watch the weather toward the end of the week and send appropriate clothes to school with your child. I'd always prefer a kid to be too warm than too cold. Dress in layers! If you have any questions about the trip please ask.

IXL Update - our class has already attempted 2000 + math problems. We've spent 14 + hours practicing math. What an accomplishment after only a few short weeks!!!!!! The kids can continue to practice at home and school. I've had the kids practicing A.1 -A.3, B.1-B.3, C.1-C.3. Patterns and sorting practice would also be good choices. Any other areas of interest for your child are fine as well. Please note that next to each question is a small icon of a speaker. Your child can click the speaker and listen to the question if they can not read the text by themselves. This helps to make them a little more independent while doing their practice. Please let me know if you have any questions about IXL or if you are having trouble logging in at home.

3 Bees update - the kids are still doing well with the 3 Bees. I have added another component to reinforce the positive behaviors. The kids have been earning raffle tickets for places were they are following the 3 Bees. We are currently focusing on hallway and bathroom times. The kids can earn a ticket each time they follow the 3 Bees in those areas. The kids write their names on the tickets and at the end of the week we have a drawing for 3 prizes. The more tickets they get in a week the better the chance is that they'll win a prize. Each week we'll start over and the kids can earn new tickets! So far the results has been great. I've seen a dramatic change in the kid's behavior in the hall and bathroom. They are now quiet and respectful 99% of the time :)
