Weekly Update

Hello Everyone! We're looking forward to another busy week here at SJCA. :) I can't beleive that its already the first week of October. The kids were really excited when we changed the month over today and talked about some of the exciting things that they can look forward to this month.

We started our morning with an all school awards assembly. 3 students got awards this month. Congrats to the following students!!!!!!!!

• Matthew - Student of the Month
• Eric - Terrific Kid
• Jordan - Lancer Value (spirituality)

Next month I'm looking forward to recognizing 3 more students for their achievements!

Here's what you can look forward to this week!

• Tuesday - Grandparent's Day 9 - 10:30 for classroom visits. 10:30 - 11:30 Mass
• Wednesday and Thursday - Parent/Teacher conferences. Times were sent home on Friday in the student folders. We'll be going over student progress so far this year and talking about some academic and behavior goals for the remainder of the trimester. Please feel free to bring along any questions you'd like to discuss!
• Friday - No School
• All Week - BOOK FAIR!!!!!!!

• Upcoming Science Opportunity this weekend. I had the pleasure of working with Chris last year while her son was in kindergarten. If your children want to learn more about science this sounds like a wonderful opportunity!

The Division of Natural Sciences would like to invite you and your students and children to "Passport to Science" on Saturday, October 8 from 9 AM to noon in the David Straz Center. All elementary students are invited to attend. Admission is Free! Flyers about the event were placed in your mailbox on Friday. The children will have the opportunity to perform hands-on science experiments in physics, chemistry, biology, neuroscience, geography, environmental science, math and more. Highlights include: examining rat brains, identifying microbes in pond water, mapping, making kite mosaics, a planetarium show and more. The experiments will run every half-hour so kids will have the chance to attend six different areas. This event is an awesome way for our SJCA children to experience science and math in many different disciplines. Each student will obtain a stamped souvenir passport from the event. You could easily have students bring the passports to school and hold group discussions about their science experiences in class. Please share this information in your weekly blogs or newsletters.
