We're now down to the last two full weeks of school before Christmas! The kids are starting to get excitied. We're counting down to Christmas with a class advent calendar and little Santa calendars too.
Here's what we're up to in academics -
Math - we just finished up numbers up to 12. I did a little assessment with the kids today on writing these numbers. Some of the numbers are still a little tricky for them to write and/or they are still backwards. We'll continue with number writing throughout the year to get in some additional practice. Next unit will look at graphing.
Reading - we had another round of running records completed last week. Look for updated books coming home this week for fluency practice. Overall the kids are showing improvement with their books! Keep up the good work!
Last week the kids also enjoyed practicing high frequency words with a game on the smartboard. They also had a chance to practice writing and spelling some of these words during their center times.
Writing - this week the kids are going to focus on writing a short letter to Santa and a small wish list. In addition we'll continue to write in our journals with seasonal prompts. Last week they practiced their Christmas list and wrote about our "Elf" in the journals.
Religion - This week we have our final creation lesson. Then, we'll be spending the remainder of the month looking at advent and Christmas. Mass this week is Thursday @ 9:00.
Social Studies - We will be looking at land forms and water uses this week in social studies.
We all put shoes out for St. Nick today....hopefully the kids will have a special treat in their shoe tomorrow morning :)
