Calling all readers!!!!!! Help us celebrate "Read Across America"!!!!!! I am looking for guest readers to come in a share a favorite picture book with our class as we celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday and participate is some fun activities as a part of Read Across America! If you are interested, please email me your preferred day/time for February 27 - March 9th.
Here's what is happening this week -
Lots of assessments happening again this week. Report cards will be coming up soon as our 2nd trimester ends at the end of the week! That means there is only one trimester remaining for the school year....wow! I am really starting to remind the students that they should be starting to look more and more like first graders :)
Things we are working on this week include -
Reading - focusing on making inferences and connections with the texts we are reading. Students are doing this during guided reading and our read alouds. Continuing with word work, building reading stamina, reading comprehension, high frequency words, and more with literacy centers.
Writing - writing simple sentences with a focus on using capital letters and punctuation. Handwriting with letters Gg & Hh.
Math - Assessing students on 3D shapes. Working on estimation and measurement as a part of centers. Next topic coming up will be money.
Religion - Reading and learning about Noah and the ark (God's promises) and Lent.
Social Studies - finishing up with our mini unit on presidents.
Looking ahead to next week...
Monday is a 1/2 day of school.
Read Across America/Dr. Seuss themed activities throughout the week.
