Weekly Update # 11

Here's what is happening this week-

If you have not turned in your parent / teacher conference slips please do so ASAP! I have a limited amount of choices left. Soon you will receive a note confirming your time for the conference. Other teachers will also be available for you to see (art, music, PE) during the available times. 

Academics -

• Reading -  we will be continuing to working on summarization.  High frequency word practice with the next twenty words. This brings up to review up to 80 of the 100 Fry words! Choral reading practice with poetry. We have a few lingering Stellaluna writing activities that we're finishing up this week. 
• Math - Continuing with Unit 3 - exploring unknown numbers or partners. 
• Language Arts - Spelling studying the sounds of s/t/st. We will continue to write and edit some sentences this week. We will use partners to edit our work. Continued practice of language skills using our Daily Language Review packets. I will be doing some assessments as well. The assessments this week will be on digraphs and spelling of the high frequency words. 
• Social Studies - Elections & voting will be the topics this week. We will also continue with acceptance in our character development study. 
• Religion - learning about ways Jesus shared God's love.
• Technology - working on developing keyboarding/typing skills. We will use Word to type words and sentences. 
• Homework - November reading log/Book-it form, spelling practice, math packet, continued high frequency word list practice (up to list 1D) & practice reading. IXL practice - we could be spending lots more time using this great resource! If your child has not already practice skills B.1 & B.2 (in addition, grade 1) that would be a great place to start!

Next week we have our big Veteran's Day mass 11/12 @ 9:30 am. All are welcome to join us!
Students may wear red, white, blue polos, or the special spirit wear shirt (delivered this week) with uniform bottoms. 

One of our parents (Mrs. Evans) had the following tip to share - Parents can close-caption the television shows their children watch as this has been shown to increase a child's connection between the spoken and written word. (Justice & Ezell, 2001; Kaderavek& Rabidoux, 2004) Thanks for the tip! 

A special thanks to all who helped and donated with the SJCA auction! Thanks so much Mrs. Dabroski for your help with the class projects. They were beautiful...I received so many compliments on them!!! I know the winner will be very happy with these special pictures! Enjoy :)
