Weekly update #14


Welcome back! I hope that everyone enjoyed some quality time together over the Thanksgiving break! I am sure the kids will be excited to share some of the details of their break! We'll be getting right back to work this week....Christmas will be here before we know it! 

Things to remember -

Jean/hoodie passes can be purchased this week for $10. With the pass students can wear jeans & a hoodie all week long! All money will go to a Catholic school that was heavily damaged by Superstorm Sandy. 

The school Christmas concert is next week, Thursday (Dec. 6th). @ 6:30.

Academics -
  • Reading -  We will get back into our Daily 5 & guided reading routine. We'll be working on the question strategy this week. We will work on developing questions for before, during, & after reading. Re-testing all students with the AR star test. 
  • Math - Starting Chapter 4 on Tuesday. We start with work on 10 groups, then teens, and then we will be adding with teens. 
  • Language Arts - Spelling studying the sounds of sc, sw, & sn. We are continuing our work with sentence writing. Our writing lesson will focus on how to create a "exciting endings" in our writing.  Continued practice of language skills using our Daily Language Review packets.
  • Social Studies - We'll be learning about community laws and leaders. We are also doing so work with maps and we will be finding our state on the US map. 
  • Religion - Jesus and what he teaches us about love. (love God, love one another, etc. )
  • Technology - working on developing keyboarding/typing skills. We will use Word to type words and sentences. AR star tests.
  • Homework - November reading log/Book-it form, spelling practice, math packet, continued high frequency word list practice (up to list 1D) & practice reading.
