weekly update 15


Happy December! We are busy a school starting all of our December and advent activities. We we able to start our week off with a beautiful advent prayer service this morning. We also had our awards ceremony....congrats Noel, Maddie, & Kamryn & all of our perfect attendance award winners! We are proud of you! 

Remember SJCA Christmas concert is Thursday @ 6:30 @ the Upper Campus! Your child can be dropped of in his/her designated classroom starting at 6:00. Look for an update with more details and classroom assignments to be sent out before Thursday. Please pick up your child in the same classroom used for drop off following the program. Attire is expected to be dress up / holiday clothing. 

Thursday is a 1/2 day - dismissal @ 12 for teacher inservice.

Academics -
  • Reading -We'll be continuing work with the questioning strategy this week. We will work on developing questions for before, during, & after reading. Review of the final 20 sight words from the Fry list. Comparison of short vowel and long vowel sounds. 
  • Math - Continuing work with teens, tens, and ones. 
  • Language Arts - Spelling studying the sounds of bl, pl, sl. We are continuing our work with sentence writing. Writing our Christmas lists to Santa...we will use them to create word documents this week & next week. 
  • Social Studies - review and test for our unit on community leaders & basic map skills. 
  • Religion - Several activities to introduce the advent season. This includes making a class advent wreath, creating nativity posters, setting up the classroom nativity & more. 
  • Technology - practice our typing skills by typing our Christmas lists
  • Homework - December reading log/Book-it form, spelling practice, math packet, continued high frequency word list practice - the first 100 & practice reading. 
Scholastic book orders went home today. Orders are due by Friday so that we can receive our books in time for Christmas. If your order is a gift for your child  please let me know. 

Our school is participating in a food drive for the Shalom Center this holiday season. Send in your canned goods from now until break. Thanks in advance for your donations!
