weekly update 16

Here's what we are doing this week - 

Academics -

• Reading - We will continue comparing short and long vowel sounds. Introduction of the Cafe Menu - http://www.TheDailyCafe.com/CAFE%20Menu.pdf We will gradually be introducing strategies to use as we read. This week will be check for understanding & back up and re-read. Its assessment time again, individual assessments on each child using the Dibels test. • Math - Continuing work with teens, tens, and ones. 
• Language Arts - Spelling studying the sounds of cr, cl, fr, gl, gr. We are continuing our work with sentence writing. Writing our Christmas lists to Santa...we will use them to create word documents this week & next week. 
• Social Studies - Christmas around the world traditions, family holiday traditions.
• Religion - Advent & Christmas. 
• Technology - practice our typing skills by typing our Christmas lists
• Homework - December reading log/Book-it form, spelling practice, math packet, continued high frequency word list practice - the first 100 & practice reading, Social Studies holiday traditions sheet. 

Today I submitted our all the posters from our class for the Knights of Columbus Christmas poster coloring contest. The children designed posters showing the true meaning of Christmas. They did a beautiful job and I'm hoping we have a winner in our class! The submissions will be judged tomorrow.
