Weekly Update 17

Here's what is happening this week -

Academics -
  • Reading - We will be using the Polar Express in our Daily 5 work and with our Cafe reading strategies. We started today by investigating and defining interesting words we found in the story.
  • Math - Continuing work with teens, tens, and ones.
  • Language Arts - Wrapping up our Christmas lists, writing Christmas cards.
  • Social Studies - Christmas around the world traditions, family holiday traditions. Presentations on each of our holiday traditions.
  • Religion - Christmas.
  • Technology - practice our typing skills by typing our Christmas lists. We have a few more to complete on Tuesday then we will be dropping them in the mail for Santa.
  • Homework - No Homework this week.....enjoy your family time!
Thursday - casual dress...any bottoms & red/green/holiday tops. We will be getting together with the 3rd grade for a project and we will have our classroom party.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) we will be having a practice "lockdown". We will stress that this is a safety drill to practice our school's safety procedures. We will NOT be discussing anything that is not age appropriate/school appropriate. It is very important that both the students and staff practice what to do in the event of an emergency. We are reviewing our procedures so that we are as safe as possible on a daily basis.

Over the past few days I have received a number of resources on the topic of children dealing with tragedies. Please let me know if your family needs any of these resources or if your child would like to speak with one of our guidance counselors.

I am also working with the students on reviewing our 3 Bee behaviors. I am trying to reward the students with their positive choices and behaviors. Coming up after Christmas, the students will have the opportunity to earn some fun coupons for their hard work. We discussed this today and they were really excited and ready to work hard to meet their goals! I will detail some of their reward options after break so you know what to expect.

Have a wonderful break and enjoy the holidays with your families! See you in 2013!!!!!!!
