This week remember -
Thursday mass @ 9:00 in celebration of All Saint's Day. Students may dress up as their favorite saint if they would like. Please let me know if you have any questions about this.
Friday - no school
Saturday - the annual SJCA auction. Tickets are still available for this important fundraiser. Students can also keep selling raffle tickets through the end of the week. We still have a lot more to sell to meet our class goal. Let me know if your family needs additional tickets to buy or sell. They are $20 each or 6 for $100.
Academics -
- Reading - In reading we will be working on summarization. High frequency word practice. Choral reading practice with poetry. We are also doing a mini unit using the book Stellaluna.
- Math - Test on Unit 2. Starting Unit 3 - exploring unknown numbers or partners.
- Language Arts - Spelling studying the sounds of sh/ch/wh/th. We'll be practicing our editing skills with some spooky sentence writing. Continued practice of language skills using our Daily Language Review packets. We will also be including some language arts in our Stellaluna mini unit.
- Social Studies - rules/laws within communities. We will also be starting some character education lessons. Our first lesson will be on acceptance.
- Religion - All Saints Day / read & learn about several different saints this week.
- Technology - working on developing keyboarding/typing skills.
- Homework - finish up October reading logs/start November reading log*, spelling practice, math packet, continued high frequency word list practice & practice reading. This week I added another paper reading book to the folders. It can be used to build reading fluency throughout the week. You can keep the book as long as needed, please return to school when you are finished practicing it. I will send home new books weekly. Spelling test will be Wednesday/Thursday this week.
- *From now until March I will be using the Pizza Hut "Book-It" program for our reading logs. Students will earn a coupon for a personal pan pizza with the completion of their monthly reading logs. I expect that the kids read on the weekdays only....if they want to include the weekend days they can. At the end of the month I will send home the coupons with each completed reading log.
