Week 6

Here's what we are working on this week -

Your child should have brought home their new SJCA spirit wear shirt today. It can be worn on Fridays & for field trips. 

Looking ahead - I will be out next week Tuesday afternoon until the following Monday. My youngest son (Charlie) will be having his first surgery to repair his cleft lip on Wednesday morning. We will be up at Children's Hospital. Prayers for a successful surgery would be much appreciated. If all goes well he will have his 2nd (and more invasive pallet surgery) December 19th. Thank you in advance for your patience during these times! 

Homework - 

Math w.s. for unit 2. 

Mrs. Smither also sent home science homework last week...please return asap if your child has not already done so.

We didn't have music today...send instruments again on Wednesday if your child made one.

I will still be accepting September reading logs this week...the new October forms went home today.

Spelling (short a words continued) see new list and new study ideas for the month of October.  Practice test on Wednesday & test on Thursday. 

Please turn in documentation of the 3 nights of spelling practice with other homework on Thursday.

Fry words for October - continue reviewing the 1st 100 words, 10 per week. Work toward fluency and if words are mastered work on spelling. The words are on spelling city as well. 

2nd step packet - for your (parent's) information...any at home work is optional.

Daily 5/reading -

• Read to self - (building stamina)
• word work - (sorts with short a) & Fry words to 30
• work on writing - journaling short sentences, lists
• read to someone (building stamina, sitting EEKK, how to talk about books with a partner)
• mini lessons on short a, segmenting/blending sounds.
• Running record assessments

Math -  Unit 2 - visualizing addition. IXL in the computer lab this week.

Language/Writing - 1st of the 6 traits - ideas 

Spelling - Spelling practice test Wednesday & real test on Thursday.

Religion - the Blessed Trinity (test this week)

Social Studies - Unit 1 - comparing home & school, rules at home and school

Social Skills - Second step lesson - be assertive 

Science - the scientific process

Grandparents day is coming up - our class will be in art as grandparents arrive. As you invite grandparents don't forget to let them know where the kids will be. We will also have a few parents available to escort people to the correct locations!
