Week 2

I hope that everyone had a great weekend and was able to enjoy some quality time with family & friends. It is good to be back and I am looking forward to introducing the students to more of our classroom routines this week.

Remember that Thursday is a 1/2 day of school (no lunch @ school unless your child is going to aftercare). Pick-up is @ 12:00.

Friday - NFL Day - students can wear team jerseys or shirts with uniform bottoms.

Hot lunch has been going really well. the kids are doing great trying all the fruits and veggies! Most of our class is signed up for milk, please let me know if your child has not received milk at lunch or if you would still like to sign up.

Here's what we are working on this week -

Daily 5/reading - Language skills practice (daily), word work (defining back to school vocabulary words), Daily 5 mini lesson (choosing good fit books & ways to read to self) Reading assessments using the STAR test. High frequency words (Fry words). Introduction to word work using letter sound sorts.

Math - Work on establishing our daily math routine. Starting Unit 1 - visualizing groups of 5, number partners

Language/Writing - Writing mini book about the first week of school. (continued)

Religion - God created the world, God created all people, God gives us special gifts, God promises to love us always. (continued)

Social Studies - preview of topics to be studied throughout the year

Homework - went home today in student folders. Included was a reading log for September. Students should color one space for each book they read or listen to for a total of 20 books or chapters for the month. You will also find a list of high frequency words (Fry Words) to study for the month - 5 per week. The last item was a math packet (2 stapled sheets). The only work due Friday is the math. Reading log comes back at the end of the month. Fry Words should be reviewed/studied until your child demonstrates fluency. Ultimate goal being a mastery of the first 300 Fry words by the end of the year.
