Weekly update # 11

Here's what is happening this week -

Thanks so much for all the awesome PB & J donations!!!!!!!!! SJCA was able to collect 1000 jars!

Coming up this week -

• No school on Friday (teacher in-service)
• look for your child's First Quarter report card to come home in the Wednesday folders. We'll be meeting in just a few weeks to review the report card & your child's progress so far this year.

Things we need for the classroom-

• brown paper grocery bags

Homework -

• homework this week includes math & a writing prompt. Please return on Thursday
• practice "One Breath Boxes"
• Lexia should also be practiced at home for a minimum of 20 minutes per week. They can practice daily if they want but no more than 20 minutes per day is necessary.
• Reading - reading daily at home is important to your child's literacy development. They can read on their own or listen to someone read. The more they are exposed to the better!

Book-It Program- New November forms were sent home today. Pizza coupons were sent home for those that have completed their October forms.

Literacy (reading & writing) -

•  matching letters to letter sounds 
• short vowel sounds (short a/e)
• Reading assessments
• identifying beginning, middle, & end of stories (using the story the 3 Little Pigs)
• illustrating & writing about the beginning, middle, & end of stories 
• small groups working on segmenting & blending words, & more phonics skills.
• working on high frequency words

Math -

• acting out addition & subtraction stories
• recognizing & using 5 groups
• characteristics of triangles & hexagons
• numbers 6-10
• Rocket Math - a fun way for the students to practice & master their number writing skills! 

Religion -

• ordinary time in the church year

Handwriting -

• circular letters 

Science 

• science tools & problem solving
