Weekly Update #10

Here's what is happening this week -

Coming up this week -
  • It's the final week for PB & J - don't forget to send in your final donations by Thursday!!!!
  • Please remember to purchase your raffle tickets for the SJCA auction. Let me know if your need more and I will send them home with your child.
  • MASS UPDATE - All Saints Mass is now on Thursday this week. Students have the option of dressing as a Saint for the mass. Please submit the permission slip (in the Lower campus weekly update) if your child will be participating.
  • Friday (10/31) classroom Halloween party & trunk-or-treat. Students can wear jeans with black/orange tops to school. Students can change into costumes in the afternoon. 
  • Saturday 11/1 - the LC Halloween party is in the gym. See the flyer sent home last Wednesday for more details!!!!!!!!
Homework - 
  • Students brought home their homework assignments today. Included is one page of math and a writing prompt. Homework will be given on Monday & returned on Friday.
  • practice "One Breath Boxes"
  • Lexia should also be practiced at home for a minimum of 20 minutes per week. They can practice daily if they want but no more than 20 minutes per day is necessary.
  • Reading - reading daily at home is important to your child's literacy development. They can read on their own or listen to someone read. The more they are exposed to the better!
Book-It Program- October forms can be turned in on Friday with the other homework assignment.

Literacy (reading & writing) -
  •  matching letters to letter sounds 
  • short vowel sounds (short a)
  • writing assessments / letter & letter sound assessments 
  • identifying beginning, middle, & end of stories (using the story Pancakes for Breakfast)
  • illustrating & writing about the beginning, middle, & end of stories 
  • small groups working on letter ID, letter sounds, segmenting & blending words, & more phonics skills
  • creating words & sentences for wordless stories (using the story Pancakes for Breakfast)
Math -
  • acting out addition & subtraction stories
  • recognizing & using 5 groups
  • numbers 6-10
  • Rocket Math - a fun way for the students to practice & master their number writing skills! 
Religion -
  • creation poster projects 
  • the year of the church
Handwriting -
  • circular letters 
Science 
  • studying bat through research
  • science tools & problem solving
